John Roett gives us a piece of his mind. Do not set up term limits. LET PEOPLE BE APPOINTED AND STAY BASED ON PERFORMANCE. If you do your job well, you stay; if you screw up, you go. This way, if you do well, the country does well. Watch Ibrahim Tourer of Burkina Faso (24:50). I encourage you to subscribe and support John Roett on Instagram.

This is an interesting and objective analysis of the government’s performance to date, grounded in data and video evidence, and given philosophical weight through relevant quotes and examples.

Many of the key takeaways reinforce exactly why I refuse to participate by voting in this farcical system we call democracy:
• The use of snap elections as a calculated political ploy.

• The unashamed habit of politicians becoming suddenly visible during election season after four years of near-total absence.

• The chronic lack of accountability.

• The blatant lies packaged as promises in election manifestos (I am still waiting for VAT to be reduced).

• The expectation of being rewarded with votes despite clear failure to perform.

• The uncomfortable truth that most of us vote according to long-standing family or tribal party allegiance.

• The reality that both major parties differ largely only in terms of faces (persons), sometimes not even that (thanks to the Lashleys, Thornes and Mascolls of this world), but are fundamentally the same in dishonesty, corruption, ineptitude, and arrogance.

A third consecutive term for this party would be devastating for Barbados, placing us in a position eerily similar to 1976, 1986, and 2008. History shows that no party in this country has proven capable of governing with humility even for a single month, far less for five years and certainly not for more than ten. None can be trusted to hold the nation’s purse for more than two terms. More accurately, the country itself cannot withstand unbroken, sustained corruption for that length of time. There must be a break in momentum, however brief.

In that context, the most rational voter strategy may simply be to vote for change… for change’s sake.

No name,

Bajan Eagle,
Yes, democracy is a farcical system. Full agreement.
